Hi, I’m Amirah, an illustrator and concept artist working across character design, environments, visual development, and illustration. I grew up in Malaysia and am now based in Los Angeles, and I’ve always been drawn to art that feels like a doorway into another place.

I love creating characters and worlds with a strong sense of personality, atmosphere, and story. A lot of my ideas begin with something small that catches my attention, whether that’s an interesting piece of clothing, a strange character, architecture, folklore, food, or just a shape I want to explore. From there, I like figuring out who belongs in that world, what it feels like to live there, and all the little details that make it feel specific.

 

My process usually moves between sketching, painting, research, design, and 3D. I enjoy the exploratory part just as much as the finished image, especially when I can follow an idea somewhere unexpected and let it become stranger or more specific along the way.

 

Outside of art, I love traveling, eating my way through new places, climbing, and collecting inspiration from whatever I happen to find. I’m always noticing interesting buildings, colors, costumes, landscapes, menus, tiny objects, and other details that eventually find their way back into my work in one form or another.
